Responsibilities

The Responsibilities of Renewable Energy Association and Renewable Energy Assurance Ltd.

As the scheme sponsor, Renewable Energy Association (REA) has developed the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (Code) with its subsidiary, Renewable Energy Assurance Ltd., the scheme administrator, to help members achieve high standards and to give consumers peace of mind when purchasing renewable energy generating systems.

Neither REA nor REAL are a party to any contract covered by the Code. Other than providing the services described in the Code, neither REA nor REAL can accept responsibility for the performance of members or non-members in meeting the conditions of a contract. Except as explicitly set out in the Code REA, REAL and scheme panel members shall have no other obligation, duty or liability whatsoever in contract, tort or otherwise. They shall not be liable to a member or consumer in contract tort or otherwise for any direct loss or loss of revenue, business, contracts, anticipated savings, profits or any indirect or consequential loss however arising.

REA and REAL recommend that consumers take great care in deciding which energy generating system to purchase, and who to sign a contract with for its installation. (Guidance for consumers on what to look out for is on the Renewable Energy Consumer Code website: https://www.recc.org.uk/consumers .)
