RECC urges Government to maintain consumer protection standards

Posted: 6 March, 2019. Written by Virginia Graham

In its response to the Consultation on a Smart Export Guarantee RECC has urged Government to maintain a high standard of consumer protection in the small-scale renewables sector. RECC welcomed the Government's proposal to require licensed suppliers to reward consumers for the electricity they export to the grid going forward, stressing that it will send a positive message to consumers, encouraging them to play their part in a flexible energy system going forward.

RECC pointed out that, if they are to play their part, consumers will need to have confidence in the decisions they make to allow them to generate, store and export their own electricity. To this end, RECC supports Government's proposal to require that renewable generating products and installers should continue to be MCS-certified to qualify for the Smart Export Guarantee.
