Renewable Energy Assurance Ltd, the company that administers RECC, was one of a number of influential industry signatories to a letter to Climate Change Minister, Lord Calanan, setting out the reasons why the Green Homes Grants scheme should not be scrapped.
Admidst widespread evidence of problems with the way the scheme is being run and, in particular, with the speed at which vouchers are redeemed and installers are paid, Government was rumoured to considering axing the scheme.
The arguments put forward to the Minister in the letter include:
1. The scheme has proved very popular with the public.
2. Partnership between different bodies is working.
3. Investment has been made and jobs have been created within the sector.
4. Energy efficiency is an essential element of the Green Recovery.
RECC was earlier one of four organisations to take part in a survey of heat pump installers which found widespread dissatisfaction with the way the scheme was being run. The results of the survey has been made available to Government. It is hoped that changes will be announced in the near future.
